Files

Design, Whiteboard, and Document files sit beside tasks and assets in every project, with folders for finding, personal drafts, and a two-way link to the tasks that change them.

Tasks, files, and assets

A project holds three things side by side: tasks, files, and assets. The left panel switches between them with Tasks | Files | Assets, and its search narrows whichever tab is open. The full-width button under the switch follows the tab: New task, Create file, or Upload.

A file is something you make and edit in Iterel. There are three kinds:

  • Design — screens and explorations, in pages.
  • Whiteboard — workshops, maps, and structured formats, in pages.
  • Document — one text with sections, such as a brief or a plan. It is saved as versions, and its cover is drawn from its first lines.

An asset is something you bring in or generate to use: an image, SVG, PDF, audio, video, font, or code. Assets keeps its own library. Anything you drop on the project goes to Files or Assets by that rule.

Create a file

Choose Create file on the Files tab, pick the type, name it, and choose who can see it: The project team, or Only me, in My drafts. Start from a template opens Community templates for that type; a copy becomes your file.

The Files library

Expand Files to open its library. Like Projects, Assets, the Tasks board, and Community, it uses one arrangement: a ribbon that names the place and holds its main actions, a toolbar line with scope and filters on the left and sort and the grid or list toggle on the right, and the files across the full width. Scopes include Files, Recent, and My drafts. The list view shows where each file lives, who can open it, and its last edit.

Folders

Folders only help people find things. Moving a file into a folder, or out of one, never changes who can open it. Deleting a folder moves its files to Not in a folder; nothing is deleted and nobody loses access.

Drafts

A draft belongs to one project and only you can see it. Nobody else can open it or find it in search. Use Move into project when the team should see it: its history and versions come with it. A draft cannot be shared for review until it is in the project.

Tasks on a file

A file shows the tasks working on it. A page tab carries a small state dot when a task is on that page, and the file's ribbon has one N tasks menu that lists them. From the other end, a task's Changes lists the files and pages its rounds touched, beside the code. Both views read the same record. Saying Ready on a Design page still creates the task that carries it into the product.

Edit rights and review

Edit rights live on the whole file. Share for review can target one page and its saved versions. See Sharing and permissions.

Export as .itrl

Save a file as an .itrl file from the file's menu. It is a versioned, readable bundle of the file's pages, frames, versions, and details. Export is available now; opening an .itrl file in Iterel comes later.

Existing projects

Projects made before files keep everything. The Design canvas becomes a Design file named Design, and the Whiteboard becomes a Whiteboard file named Whiteboard. Every page, frame, version, review link, comment, and Ready binding is where it was, and old links open the new file. Nothing uploads because a local project opens.

On a phone

The phone companion lists a project's files and opens one read-only: its pages, cover, Comment, and Share for review. Editing stays on the Mac.
